SUMMARY:Tenebrae
DESCRIPTION:Tenebrae (“shadows” or “darkness”) is a Holy Week service that is at least 1\,000 years old. Tenebrae would be sung each day of the Triduum in a church lit only by 15 candles. These were extinguished one by one until the church was left in darkness. At that point\, a loud noise (“strepitus”) would be produced – sometimes by slamming a hymnal or other book shut\, sometimes by stomping on the floor – symbolizing the earthquake after Christ’s death. \nLike the “lessons and carols” services familiar at Christmas\, Tenebrae consists of hymns and readings\, the ones proper to Lauds and Matins for the days of the Triduum. Until the mid-1950s\, when the Easter Vigil had been revived\, nearly every parish in the United States sung Tenebrae on Holy Thursday\, Good Friday\, and Holy Saturday. Today\, churches with Tenebrae services usually sing them once\, on a Lenten evening – this year we will have Tenebrae at St. A’s on Wednesday of Holy Week.

DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis\, please join our St. Aloysius contingent with Mrs. Otis for Bishop Frank Caggiano’s Mass and brunch. There is no cost but sign up is required as we only have 10 spots! \nWe will meet at St. Aloysius at 8:45 am and head to the St. Augustine Cathedral. Mass will include inspirational words from the Bishop\, the blessing of the new Carlo Acutis statue (who will be declared a saint earlier that morning in Rome by Pope Francis). Brunch will follow at Kolbe Cathedral High School where we will watch the rebroadcast of the canonization from Rome and connect via FaceTime with some of the diocesan delegates who are attending the celebration.
