Construction has begun in earnest on renovations and additions that will enhance and improve the campus of St. Aloysius Parish. The ambitious project, part of the “We Stand with Christ” campaign, will see the construction of all new spaces, such as a community room, a family and youth center, a chapel, and classrooms to accommodate 900+ religious education students.
Renovations and enhancements to existing structures are also underway, including new pews, carpeting, sound system, and restrooms for the main Church. The project will include additional green spaces for outdoor gatherings.
The project has become necessary due to sustained parish growth – with the resumption of religious education, the addition of multiple new ministries, and the overall growth and vitality of the parish the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As we consider the demands of living truly faith-filled lives today in light of our aging campus and facilities, the time has come to provide what we need to ensure a future that is inviting and nurtures a life-giving experience of Christ and one another,” said Monsignor Robert Kinnally, pastor of St. Aloysius Parish.
A groundbreaking ceremony that included Bridgeport Bishop Frank Caggiano occurred in late June, and demolition is well underway as the campus transformation begins. Work is expected to be completed by the second half of 2025.
“I look forward to keeping you updated every step of the way – and I invite you to pray for the ongoing success of this project, as construction continues,” said Msgr. Kinnally.
The project is made possible through the generosity of parishioners and friends of St. Aloysius Parish. As part of the “We Stand with Christ” campaign, the parish is seeking to raise $26 million dollars – and is already well on their way to that goal at currently $18.7 million.
“We should be proud of where we are in fundraising, but we need everyone to help us get to our goal,” said Kinnally.
Included in the plans is a Catholic pre-school. The building will conform to all state requirements, and the parish is working with educational consultants to create a faith-based early education opportunity for the community.
“There is a tremendous need for early education in our town, and I am very excited to see what God has in store for this new school,” said Kinnally.
The new buildings and green spaces will include an array of state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly features, incorporating solar and geothermal energy, pollinator gardens, and more.
“We want to do this right,” said Kinnally. “Our plan is for these buildings to be financially self-sustaining, environmentally responsible, and enriching for the St. Aloysius community and beyond.”
Renovations are not expected to impact daily Masses, funerals, weddings, or baptisms.
